Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs IKUINA Akiko by H.E. Major General Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Japan

On April 30, from 3:30 p.m. JST for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by H.E. Major General Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Japan. The overview is as follows.

  1. Parliamentary Vice-Minister IKUINA touched on the strong bilateral relationship between Japan and Bhutan that has been nurtured through people-to-people exchanges, including those between the Imperial and Royal Families, and economic cooperation such as agricultural development. Parliamentary Vice-Minister IKUINA also stated that 2026 will mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Bhutan, and that it would be a good opportunity to look back the longstanding friendship and build new cooperative relations.
  2. In response, Ambassador Namgyal thanked the Government of Japan for its support to Bhutan and expressed his desire to contribute towards the further development of Japan-Bhutan relations.
