On April 14, commencing at 5:30 p.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr.IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Laura Camila SARABIA TORRES, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia, who was visiting Japan on the occasion of the Expo 2025, Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Iwaya extended a warm welcome to Foreign Minister Sarabia, and expressed his gratitude for being the only country from Latin America to have built its TypeA pavilion at Expo 2025, Osaka, Kansai, Japan which started on April 13. Minister Iwaya expressed his hope that the Expo will be an opportunity to deepen exchanges and cooperation between Japan and Colombia at various levels. In response, Foreign Minister Sarabia expressed her desire to further strengthen bilateral relations through high-level exchanges during Expo 2025, Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Both ministers also concurred to strengthen dialogue between Japan and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which is chaired by Colombia.
  2. The two Ministers also exchanged views on cooperation in a wide range of areas, including the economy and the next generation energy areas.
  3. The two Foreign Ministers also had a exchange of views on regional situations and international situations such as the response to North Korea including the abductions issue, and concurred that they would work together as two countries sharing values.
