Meeting between Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI and Chief Economist Torero

On April 14th, commencing at 5:40 PM(JST) for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Dr. Máximo Torero, Chief Economist at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri conveyed Japan’s recognition of the FAO’s pivotal role in ensuring global food security and welcomed Chief Economist Torero who plays a crucial role in policy analysis and formulation of policy recommendations at the FAO.
  2. In response, Chief Economist Torero expressed deep gratitude for Japan's support to the FAO and stated his intention to continue working together with Japan to strengthen global food security.
  3. Finally, both sides exchanged views on the current challenges regarding food security and concurred that Japan and FAO further deepen mutual collaborations.
