Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ms. ERI Arfiya by Dr. Máximo TORERO, Chief Economist at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

On April 14th, commencing at 5:40 PM(JST) for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Dr. Máximo Torero, Chief Economist at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri conveyed Japan’s recognition of the FAO’s pivotal role in ensuring global food security and welcomed Chief Economist Torero who plays a crucial role in policy analysis and formulation of policy recommendations at the FAO.
- In response, Chief Economist Torero expressed deep gratitude for Japan's support to the FAO and stated his intention to continue working together with Japan to strengthen global food security.
- Finally, both sides exchanged views on the current challenges regarding food security and concurred that Japan and FAO further deepen mutual collaborations.
