On April 14, commencing at 2:10 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a foreign ministers’ meeting with H.E. Mr. Eduardo Enrique REINA García, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Honduras, who was visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Minister Iwaya welcomed Minister Reina’s visit to Japan on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the Japan-SICA Friendship Year 2025, and expressed his hope for making this year an opportunity to further deepen bilateral relations.
  2. He also mentioned the provision of cancer treatment equipment to Honduras, the first project and model case under the Diplomatic Initiative toward Latin America and the Caribbean, in which the IAEA, Japan, and a Latin American country collaborated. He emphasized the importance of cooperation in this field and expressed his desire to continue working together.
  3. In response, Minister Reina expressed his gratitude for Japan's cooperation in various fields, including the provision of cancer treatment equipment, which President Castro prioritizes, as well as disaster relief during hurricanes, health and medicine, and infrastructure. He also expressed his continued expectation for Japan's support.
  4. The two ministers confirmed that they would work closely together to further deepen Japan-Honduras relations, taking advantage of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year and the Japan-SICA Frendship Year 2025. They also agreed to strengthen dialogue between Japan and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which Honduras until recently chaired.
  5. The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international situations, including the situation in East Asia. Minister Reina expressed his continued support for Japan regarding the issue of abductions by North Korea.
