Dispatch of the Second Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team and Emergency Grant in Response to the People Affected by the Earthquake in Myanmar

  1. Based on the assessment that the needs for medical support in the affected areas of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar remain high, the Government of Japan decided to dispatch the second batch of the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team to the area. The second team will consist of 37 members, including doctors and nurses registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and is scheduled to depart Japan from April 12 onwards.
  2. In light of Emergency Grant of 6 million US dollars, which was announced on April 2, the Government of Japan will implement humanitarian assistance, in areas such as health and medical care, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and food, etc. through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), in consideration of the humanitarian needs on the ground and the effectiveness of the humanitarian assistance.
  3. Taking into consideration the humanitarian needs on the ground, the Government of Japan continues to provide as much humanitarian assistance as possible in the manner that directly benefits the people of Myanmar who are in need.
