Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister IWAYA by Minister of Unification of the Republic of Korea KIM Yung-ho

On April 10, commencing at 6:00 pm, for approximately 40 minutes, H.E. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. KIM Yung-ho, Minister of Unification of the Republic of Korea (ROK). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed Minister Kim’s visit to Japan, and stated that Japan and the ROK are important neighbors which should work as partners on challenges in the international community, and that in light of the current strategic environment, the Japan-ROK relations and Japan-U.S.-ROK cooperation are critically important.
  2. The two Ministers also exchanged views on the situations regarding North Korea, including the relations between the ROK and North Korea and human rights issues. In addition, Minister Iwaya expressed his appreciation for the consistent support from the government of the ROK regarding the immediate resolution of the abductions issue, as confirmed by Minister Kim.
