The earthquake that struck central Myanmar at around 3:20pm on March 28 (12:50pm local time) caused damage to many high-rise buildings in Bangkok and other parts of Thailand, including partial damage and cracks. According to the Thai Government, the death toll in the capital region was 23, with 36 people injured. The damage was mainly caused by the collapse of a building under construction, and search operations are continuing for people who may have been trapped under the collapsed building. Airports and transport services were temporarily suspended but resumed the next morning.
On April 4, three experts in the field of road construction dispatched from Japan arrived in Bangkok, where they held discussions with government officials and visited elevated road construction sites.
