On March 13, Mr. MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the closing session of the "12th annual World Ocean Summit & Expo", co-hosted by Economist Impact and the Nippon Foundation, held in Tokyo, Japan, and delivered remarks.

Mr. MIYAJI stated that, as a major maritime nation in the world, Japan shares its knowledge and skills with other nations to make use of them to conserve the marine environment and to sustainably use the ocean, and aims at achieving prosperity and stability of Japan and the international community based on international partnerships and cooperation.

Mr. MIYAJI then raised concrete examples of such endeavors by Japan, including its efforts in tackling marine plastic waste, combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, and on blue carbons.

Mr. MIYAJI noted that conservation of the marine environment and sustainable use of the ocean are topics being discussed at various different international fora, and expressed Japan’s intention to continue to actively engage in diplomatic activities on ocean affairs so that discussions in each forum will have a synergistic effect and lead to further strengthened efforts in this area.
