The 40th ASEAN-Japan Forum

The 40th ASEAN-Japan Forum was held in Karuizawa on Wednesday March 5. Since its inception in 1977, the ASEAN-Japan Forum has been held once a year in principle among SOM Leaders of Japan and ASEAN to discuss cooperation between ASEAN and Japan. This year marks the 40th ASEAN-Japan Forum.
- This year’s forum was co-chaired by Mr. NAMAZU Hiroyuki, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Mr Albert CHUA, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, the ASEAN Country Coordinator for Japan, and attended by representatives from the ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat. A representative from the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste also attended the forum as an observer.
- Japan and ASEAN engaged in active discussions on the progress of concrete cooperation in line with the Vision and the Implementation Plan set out at the 2023 Commemorative Summit on the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. Additionally, the participants exchanged views on regional and international affairs.
