Japan-Singapore Vice-Ministerial Policy Dialogue
On March 4 commencing at 10:00 a.m., Mr. NAMAZU Hioryuki, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, welcomed Mr. Albert CHUA, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, to Tokyo, and held the Japan-Singapore Vice-Ministerial Policy Dialogue in almost a year since January 2024.
At the outset, Mr. Namazu pointed out the importance of relations with Singapore, which is geopolitically important and shares fundamental values and principles, as the international situation becomes increasingly severe and complex. Both sides exchanged views on cooperation in a wide range of areas, including politics, trade, economic security and digital, taking into account recent developments.
Both sides also welcomed the progress of cooperation in new areas such as green, digital, and science and technology, in addition to traditional areas of cooperation, and confirmed that they will continue to update and further strengthen bilateral relations, looking ahead the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Singapore in 2026.
In addition, both sides exchanged views on the rapidly changing international situation and discussed regional and international issues in a candid manner. Looking to the future, both sides agreed to further strategic collaboration.
