On February 28, Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs attended the closing ceremony of the “Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group Meeting” held in Tokyo.

  1. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina made her closing remarks, in which she congratulated the successful conclusion of the Friends Group Meeting as the Hiroshima AI Process has been evolving from the formation of global governance for AI to its implementation.
  2. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina expressed her hope that the newly launched “Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group Partners’ Community” would facilitate the continuous sharing of information and efforts on AI governance not only among Friends Group participating countries and regions, but also among supporting organizations and companies. She also stated that Japan would promote “human-centric AI” and support the enhancement of AI environments and the establishment of AI governance in developing countries.
  3. Finally, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina stated that Japan would work with the Friends Group member countries and regions, as well as its partners, to contribute toward achieving “safe, secure, and trustworthy AI”.

Established in May 2024 under the leadership of Japan, as a voluntary framework of countries that support the spirit of the Hiroshima AI Process. As of February 2025, 55 countries and regions are participating in the Friends Group.
