Signing and exchange of notes concerning the grant aid “the Project for Vitalizing the Vietnam National Innovation Center (in cooperation with UNDP)” to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam
On February 27 (the same day local time), in Hanoi, the capital of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Mr. ITO Naoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and Ms. Ramla KHALIDI, Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam , signed and exchanged notes concerning the “the Project for Vitalizing the Vietnam National Innovation Center”, with grant amount of 299 million yen to support the vitalization of the Vietnam National Innovation Center (NIC).
- The Vietnamese government has positioned the creation of innovation as an important issue and has established the NIC and is also implementing various proactive support measures, such as holding startup promotion events. On the other hand, there are some challenges such as the formulation of a master plan for creating and fostering impact startups, raising the technological capabilities of Vietnamese startups themselves, promoting fundraising, and the shortage of human resources related to impact investment.
- This cooperation aims to vitalize innovation by the NIC in Hoa Lac District, Hanoi, to establish an impact investment fund, build an international-standard ecosystem for starting up, and develop human resources, thereby contributing to the growth and strengthening of competitiveness of Viet Nam through solving social issues.
The Socialist Republic of Viet Nam has an area of 329,241 square kilometers (about the same as the area of Japan excluding Kyushu), a population of approximately 100.3 million (2023, General Department of Statistics of Viet Nam), and a per capita gross national income (GNI) of US$4,180 (2023, World Bank).
