On February 26, commencing at 0 a.m. (local time. 4 p.m. on February 25, Japan time.) for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, during her visit to Geneva, Switzerland to attend the High-Level Segment of the 58th Session of the UN Human Rights Council and the Official Session of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, held a meeting with Hon. Vijitha HERATH, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

  1. At the outset, Ms. IKUINA stated that Sri Lanka is an important partner for Japan in realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” and that Japan would like to continue working together to achieve stability and prosperity in the region as a whole.
  2. Ms. IKUINA stated that Japan would continue to provide cooperation that is considerate of the people of Sri Lanka. Ms. IKUINA also stated that Japan looks forward to seeing the steady implementation of the reforms Sri Lanka has agreed with the IMF, and the steady advancement on the path to full-fledged economic growth. In response, Foreign Minister Herath expressed his gratitude for Japan's longstanding support to Sri Lanka and his desire to strengthen bilateral relations in various areas, including political, economic, and people-to-people exchanges.
  3. Both sides concurred to continue to work together for further development of the bilateral relations.
