Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs MATSUMOTO’s attendance at the Lithuanian National Day Reception

On February 25, 2025, Mr. MATSUMOTO Hisashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the Lithuanian National Day Reception, which was held at the Europa House in Japan, and delivered his remarks on behalf of the Japanese government. The overview is as follows:
- In his speech, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto noted that Japan and the Republic of Lithuania are partners which share values and principles, and with Prime Minister Šimonytė’s visit to Japan and the elevation of bilateral relations to a ‘strategic partnership’ on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of friendship in 2022, relations between the two countries have been developing strongly at various levels and in various fields.
- Also, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto referred to the historical ties forged through such as the ‘Visas for Life’ issued by SUGIHARA Chiune, and expressed his congratulations on the 150th anniversary of the birth of the famous Lithuanian painter and composer M.K. Čiurlionis, and stated his willingness to work together to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order under the rule of law and to work towards further deepening and developing Japan-Lithuania relations.
