The Japan-ROK Consultation on Latin America and the Caribbean

- On February 14th, Japan and the Republic of Korea held a consultation meeting on Latin America and the Caribbean in Tokyo. The attendants from the Japanese side are officials headed by Mr. NOGUCHI Yasushi, Director-General, Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from the ROK side officials headed by Mr. Lee Jooil, Director General, Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Both sides exchanged views on the regional situation and their diplomatic policies towards the region, bearing in mind the importance of a free and open international order based on the rule of law. In addition, under the current strategic environment and based on the importance of maintaining and developing further the positive basic tone of Japan-ROK relation, both sides confirmed that the two countries, as important neighbors, will further collaborate on various global issues, while counting on their respective strengths in Latin America and the Caribbean where democracy and the rule of law are valued.
- Both sides reaffirmed the significance of the trilateral consultation on Latin America and the Caribbean by Japan, Korea and China which have been held 12 times until now and agreed to coordinate for the next consultation.
