Japan-Palau Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On February 14, commencing at 9:45 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Hon. Gustav AITARO, Minister of State of the Republic of Palau, who was visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister IWAYA stated that this was their first meeting since the inauguration ceremony of President Whipps in January and that the realization of the Foreign Ministers’ meeting within such a short period was a testament to the strong Japan-Palau relationship. He also expressed his intention to work together with Minister Aitaro to further develop the "tokubetsu" (special) relationship between the two countries and to make efforts toward realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
  2. Both ministers concurred on working closely to further strengthen the bilateral relationship for the future, building on existing cooperation.
