Signing and Exchange of Notes Concerning the Provision of Open RAN-related Equipment to the Republic of the Philippines (Grant Assistance “Economic and Social Development Program”)

On February 12, in Manila, the capital of the Republic of the Philippines, Mr. ENDO Kazuya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Philippines, and Hon. Mr. Enrique A. Manalo, Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, signed and exchanged notes concerning the grant aid project for Grant Aid “Economic and Social Development Program” for the provision of telecommunications-related equipment (grant provision of up to 444 million yen).

  1. In the Philippines, the digitalization of public services and of other services in the country is in progress. However, security vulnerabilities of the systems are a concern, and diversification of vendors is required.
  2. This Program is expected to contribute to the Philippines economic and social development through social stabilization by strengthening the information and communication infrastructure and improve the security of the communication environment.This will be achieved through provision of Open RAN-related equipment that ensures interoperability of equipment from different vendors, including products manufactured by Japanese companies.
