Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs FUJII by the participants of the primary course in the Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development

On February 3, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from 23 participants of the Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- At the outset, State Minister FUJII welcomed the primary course participants from various countries and regions with diverse backgrounds, and touted them for their intentions to devote themselves in peacebuilding and development efforts at a time when peacebuilding becomes even more important. The State Minister also encouraged the participants to acquire skills necessary for working on the front lines of peacebuilding and development, and to share their experiences with each other to find solutions for peacebuilding from diverse and multiple perspectives.
- In response, the participants appreciated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for holding the program. Furthermore, they expressed their motivation for joining this program and also showed their determination to learn knowledge and skills needed as an expert.
- In closing, the State Minister mentioned the importance of building and keeping peace as well as the importance of education so as not to leave animosity to next generations. He expressed his hope that the participants will play an active role in the field of peacebuilding and development in the future.

- Based on the eight-year results of “The Program for Human Resource Development in Asia for Peacebuilding”, which was implemented from FY2007 to FY2014 with the aim of fostering civilian specialists who can work in the field of peacebuilding, “The Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development” was newly launched in FY2015. This project is implemented by Hiroshima University, and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme is in charge of overseas assignment.

10 non-Japanese participants (Bangladesh, Fiji, El Salvador, Ukraine, Lebanon, Palestine, Mali, South Sudan, Uganda and African Union Commission (AUC))
