On January 16, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the OECD–Southeast Asia High-Level Panel Discussion in Tokyo, which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OECD Tokyo Office. She also held a meeting with Mr. TAKEUCHI Yoshiki, Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), who had come to Japan to attend the event. The overview is as follows.

  1. Attendance at the OECD – Southeast Asia High-Level Panel Discussion in Tokyo

    Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI attended the High-Level Panel Discussion with Ambassadors and representatives from Southeast Asian and OECD member countries in Tokyo, and gave an opening speech. In her speech, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI spoke about the importance of strengthening cooperation between the OECD and Southeast Asia in order to promote growth and development in the region.
    She also noted that last year was an epoch-making one, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) at the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting chaired by Japan, and the opening of accession discussions with Indonesia and Thailand to the OECD, for the first time from Southeast Asia, and stated that the event would be one of the core activities of the OECD Tokyo Office, which has kicked a new start as a base for outreach to Southeast Asia.

  2. Meeting with OECD Deputy Secretary-General TAKEUCHI

    Prior to the opening of the co-hosted event, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI held a meeting with OECD Deputy Secretary-General TAKEUCHI, and reaffirmed the importance of strengthening relations with Southeast Asia through the activities of the OECD Tokyo Office.
