Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ms. ERI Arfiya by Ms. Shoko Noda, Director of the Crisis Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)


On January 14, commencing at 2:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received Ms. Shoko Noda, Director of the Crisis Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). A summary of the courtesy call is as follows.
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri stated that Japan highly appreciates the role UNDP is playing in responding to the crises in Gaza, Syria, Ukraine and other countries and regions, and would like to strengthen cooperation with UNDP for the stability and prosperity of the international community.
- Both sides exchanged views on issues including the promotion of international cooperation focusing on human dignity, human security in the field of development, and the Humanitarian, Development and Peace Nexus.
- Both sides concurred on deepening their partnership, utilizing the expertise and driving force of UNDP in addressing challenges.
UNDP is the largest development organization within the United Nations system. UNDP has a global network with a high level of expert knowledge and a wealth of experience, and is performing a leading role in promoting initiatives towards achieving the SDGs.
UNDP is an important partner for Japan in the promotion of the development agenda, including as the co-organizer of TICAD. Japan is working together with UNDP to resolve global challenges such as promoting and spreading human security, health (Universal Health Coverage (UHC)), gender equality, and supporting measures against climate change.
