Signing and Exchange of Notes Concerning Grant Aid Projects to the Kingdom of Cambodia
December 26, 2024
On 26 December, 2024, in Phnom Penh, the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, signed and exchanged notes concerning a grant aid project of up to JPY 1,002 million to provide a geospatial data platform.
- Cambodia needs to promote urban planning in line with its rapid urbanization in recent years. However, Cambodia lags behind in the development of basic data for land management, which is necessary for planning, and in the development of a system to integrate and manage such data across organizations. Therefore, there is an urgent need to build a system to strengthen the capacity for urban planning.
- This project is expected to contribute to the safe development of Cambodia's economy and society by providing a geospatial data platform to the Cambodian government and improving the country's urban planning capabilities.
- The government of Japan announced “three new cooperation approaches” for Cambodia's sustainable development and co-creation of social values. This cooperation embodies one of three approaches, namely “Developing Social Infrastructure According to Development Stages”, and will contribute to the digital economy and society in Cambodia.
