Working dinner between State Minister for Foreign Affairs FUJII and H.E. Dr. Rania Almashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation of the Arab Republic of Egypt

On December 17th commencing at 19:15 p.m for approximately 2 hours, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a working dinner with Dr. Rania Almashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who is visiting Japan under the framework of invitation program for Ministers. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, State Minister Fujii told that he attended “the Cairo Ministerial Conference to enhance the humanitarian response in Gaza”, hosted by Egypt and the United Nations, and visited two patients from Gaza strip who are currently hospitalized at Dar Al-Shifa hospital while monitoring visit, when he visited Egypt between December 2nd to 3rd. He also expressed his high appreciation for receiving and treating seriously injured and sick patients from the Gaza Strip at national hospitals and delivering humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
- In response, Minister Almashat explained harsh situation such as devastated infrastructure in the Gaza strip, procedure for delivering humanitarian aid, and emphasized the importance of removal of the rubble and dust. She also explained the current condition such as increasing refugees affected by worsening situation of neighboring countries, decreasing income from Suez canal, overstrained national budgets due to receiving refugees over 10 million, and expressed her appreciation for the development policy loan which was signed on the occasion of her visit.
- State Minister Fujii expressed his expectation that the development policy loan will contribute economic reform in Egypt, and future of manufacturing and tourism industry in Egypt, which is populous nation with young generation, will become prosperous. In response, Minister Almashat expressed her encouragement and expectation toward influx of Japanese companies in the Suez Canal Special Economic Zone and development of surrounded area of Grand Egyptian Museum.
- They concurred on maintaining close cooperation in a wide range of areas such as political, economy and culture, based on the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
