Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Vanuatu in Response to the Damages caused by the Earthquake in Port Vila

Today, December 23, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods such as jerry cans, water purifiers and generators through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the Republic of Vanuatu in response to the damages caused by the earthquake in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu.

In light of the humanitarian perspective and the close relations between Japan and Vanuatu, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to Vanuatu to help people affected by the disaster.

The Government of Japan stands with the Government and people of Vanuatu and will work closely with the government of Vanuatu for the recovery and reconstruction in damaged areas, including additional assistances.

In December 17, 2024 (PGT), the earthquake struck Port Vila, the capital of the republic of Vanuatu, which affected approximately 80,000 people, leaving 12 dead and more than 200 injured.
