Japan-Vanuatu Relations

On December 18, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, delivered the following message of condolences to Hon. Mr. Matai Seremaiah NAWALU, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade of the Republic of Vanuatu, following the earthquake that struck the Republic of Vanuatu on December 17.

“I have been saddened by the news that the earthquake that struck Port Vila, the capital of the Republic of Vanuatu on December 17, 2024, resulted in the loss of many lives. I convey my heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Vanuatu.
I express my heartfelt condolences to the victims and bereaved families, and I sincerely pray for the speedy recovery of the affected people as well as the prompt restoration on the affected areas.
Our thoughts are with the people of Vanuatu, our close friend, and we stand ready to provide as much support and cooperation as needed.”
