Working Lunch between State Minister for Foreign Affairs FUJII and H. E. Hon.  Edmondo Cirielli Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic

On December 12th, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a working lunch with H.E. Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, State Minister Fujii stated that he would like to closely cooperate to further strengthen bilateral relations across a wide range of fields under the Japan-Italy Action Plan announced in June this year. In response, Deputy Minister Cirielli stated that Japan and Italy are both nations with advanced technological capabilities, and expressed the desire to further strengthen the bilateral relationship under the “Strategic Partnership,” which was elevated in 2023.
  2. State Minister Fujii and Deputy Minister Cirielli welcomed that the two countries signed the Japan-Italy Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) on November 25th, and that the Convention on the Establishment of the “Global Combat Air Programme – GCAP International Government Organisation” entered into force on December 10th. Both sides confirmed that they would continue to work closely together in the field of security. The both sides also welcomed the launch of direct flights between Tokyo Haneda and Milan Malpensa on December 3rd. State Minister Fujii and Deputy Minister Cirielli concurred on further cooperation in economy and industry between Japan and Italy through Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
  3. The both sides also exchanged views on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, various issues of Indo-Pacific region, and the situation regarding North Korea. The both sides confirmed that they would work closely together on various issues in the international arena.
