State Minister for Foreign Affairs FUJII's Visit to Egypt (Results)

From December 2nd to the early morning of December 4th, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs visited Egypt. The following is a summary of his visit on December 3.

1. Visit to the Egyptian Japanese School (EJS) and exchange of opinions with Minister of Education and Technical Education Dr. Abdel Latif and others

On the 3rd, accompanied by Dr. Mohammed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, and others, State Minister Fujii visited one of the 55 EJS schools in Egypt that have adopted Japanese-style education “Tokkatsu” and school facilities in line with Japanese standards.

Receiving a welcome speech in Japanese from the pupils, State Minister Fujii observed the lively activities of the pupils, including activities in the sandbox to foster cooperation, a chemistry class to produce moisturizing lotion and cosmetics, classroom cleaning, classroom discussion, and dance practice for a recital. At the school, where JOCV members were active, there are many activities to learn about Japan, such as Japan Day, an opportunity to become familiar with Japanese culture, costumes, food, etc., displays of calligraphy and Japanese drawings, water conservation in Japanese-style water facilities, and displays on how to wash hands.

Dr. Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education said that under the powerful initiative of President El-Sisi, the introduction of Japanese-style education is progressing, and he hopes to further expand it in Egypt. In response, State Minister Fujii expressed his admiration and encouragement for the EJS, which is firmly introducing unique Japanese activities such as school cleanup in Egypt.

2. Visit to Dar Al-Shifa Hospital and discussion with Dr. Nima, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Egypt

On the 3rd, State Minister Fujii visited Dar Al-Shifa Hospital in the suburbs of Cairo, guided by Dr. Nima, WHO Representative in Egypt, and others. The hospital has introduced 5S-KAIZEN-TQM through the technical cooperation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve the quality of medical services, and Japan supports the hospital through WHO by providing medical equipment and materials, training for medical personnel to prepare them for emergency situations.

The hospital and other hospitals designated by the government are receiving and treating seriously injured and sick patients from the Gaza Strip. State Minister Fujii visited two patients from Gaza who are currently hospitalized and wished them a speedy recovery after receiving treatment in Egypt with peace of mind.

3. Discussions with Japanese Company Officials

On the 3rd, State Minister Fujii exchanged views with representatives of Japanese companies operating in Egypt, hearing about the potential of renewable energy and manufacturing industries in Egypt and the challenges they are currently facing, and discussed ways to further develop bilateral economic relations.
