The Second Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Indo-Pacific Dialogue

On December 11, the Second Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Indo-Pacific Dialogue was held in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. KOBE Yasuhiro, Deputy Minister/Director-General, Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Daniel J. Kritenbrink, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and Ms. Eui-hae Cecilia CHUNG, Special Representative for Indo-Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Korea (ROK) attended this dialogue. The summary is as follows.

  1. The representatives of the United States, Japan, and the ROK reaffirmed the advancement of the Japan-U.S.-ROK trilateral cooperation so far, highlighting the importance of the role that the trilateral cooperation plays for the peace and stability of the entire Indo-Pacific region.
  2. They shared their respective assessments on the security environment surrounding the region including the recent development of the relations between Russia and North Korea and reaffirmed the necessity of further enhancing the trilateral cooperation.
  3. Sharing their respective efforts in Southeast Asian and Pacific Island countries, Assistant Secretary Kritenbrink, Deputy Minister/Director-General Kobe, and Special Representative Chung discussed the possibility of further cooperation between the three countries in a wide range of areas such as maritime security, economic security and development cooperation including infrastructure development and climate change, and agreed to deepen their cooperation.
