Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Fujii and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates of the Republic of Egypt H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty

On December 2 commencing at 7:30 p.m. (local time) for approximately 25 minutes, Mr Fujii, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates of the Republic of Egypt. The overview is as follows;

  1. At the outset, Minister Abdelatty appreciated Japan's contribution to economic cooperation with Egypt in a wide range of fields, including education, infrastructure, and culture, and expressed gratitude for Egypt-Japan School for its popularity in Egypt and Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology, which accepts not only Egyptians but also students from Africa through joint Japanese-Egyptian scholarships, for building Egypt's future.
  2. State Minister Fujii expressed his appreciation for the high evaluation of Japanese-style education and expressed his hope for cooperation between the two countries' universities and in the field of science and technology.
  3. Foreign Minister Abdelatty expressed his expectations for Japanese companies to enter the Egyptian market, and stated that based on the strategic partnership, he would like to build a business relationship that would benefit both sides, rather than a one-way relationship between supporters and beneficiaries.
  4. State Minister Fujii expressed his high regard for Egypt's efforts to mediate the situation in Gaza, to bring in humanitarian supplies, and to receive critically ill patients. He also stated that Japan is supporting Egypt's efforts by providing medical equipment and materials and training for medical personnel, and that Japan would like to contribute to the stabilization of the Middle East region, while reaffirming the importance of the region's stability.
  5. In response, Foreign Minister Abdelatty expressed his gratitude for Japan's support and explained the latest situation in Palestine and neighboring countries.
