Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Coordinating Secretariat Meeting
On November 20, Mr. OKOCHI Akihiro, Deputy Director-General, Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, held an inaugural Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Coordinating Secretariat Meeting with Mr. Robert Koepche, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Department of State of the United States of America, and Mr. Yi Wonwoo, Deputy Director-General for North American Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK), in Seoul, the ROK. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- The Meeting was held based on the announcement at the Japan-U.S.-ROK Summit Meeting held in Peru on November 15th (on November 16th, Japan time) on the establishment of the Trilateral Coordinating Secretariat, which will work toward coordination and implementation of the trilateral cooperation, aiming to follow up on the progress of concrete efforts on the trilateral cooperation and further advance them.
- They reviewed the advancement of the trilateral cooperation in a wide range of fields, and concurred that they would work together to advance the trilateral coordination through the Trilateral Coordinating Secretariat to further accelerate the momentum.
Today, we announce the establishment of the Trilateral Secretariat responsible for coordinating and implementing our shared commitments. This new secretariat will seek to ensure that the work we do together further aligns our objectives and actions to make the Indo-Pacific a thriving, connected, resilient, stable, and secure region.
