Nomination of Mr. Metoki as a candidate for the election of the next Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Bureau

- The Government of Japan has decided to nominate Mr. METOKI Masahiko, current Director General of the UPU International Bureau, as a candidate for the next Director General of the UPU International Bureau to be elected during the 28th Universal Postal Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in September 2025.
- Having served as Chair of the Postal Operations Council which deals with the operational and technical aspects of the postal business since 2012, Mr. Metoki was elected as the Director General of the UPU International Bureau in the 27th Universal Postal Congress in 2021. Since then, Mr. Metoki has actively been engaged in strengthening UPU’s function and its financial reform. Currently, Mr. Metoki is the only Japanese head of the specialized agency of the United Nations.
- Mr. Metoki’s extensive experience and leadership to date have been highly evaluated by the international community, and Japan believes that Mr. Metoki’s re-election to the post will be the most appropriate for the Union. Japan will make best efforts to obtain supports from member countries for Mr. Metoki’s successful election.
