Courtesy call on Foreign Minister IWAYA by the members of Japan-Brazil Business Council Plenary Meeting

On November 6th, commencing at 5:15 p.m., for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. YASUNAGA Tatsuo, Chair, Japan-Brazil Economic Committee and Mr. Gustavo Pimenta, Chairman, Brazil-Japan Business Council, among others. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Mr. Yasunaga handed over to Minister Iwaya the “Joint Statement on the Promotion of Japan-Brazil Economic Relations” and “Joint Recommendations Calling for Prompt Action to Establish Japan-Mercosur EPA”, which were adopted at the Japan-Brazil Business Council Plenary Meeting held in Japan in November this year by Keidanren together with the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI).
- In response, Minister Iwaya expressed his gratitude for the recommendations. He also stated that Japan attaches great importance to strengthening economic ties with Brazil, a major power in the Latin American region, and that Japan would work to strengthen ties with Brazil on the basis of the recommendations. Furthermore, he stated that the Government would continue to consider ways to strengthen relations with MERCOSUR in a wide range of areas.
