Arrival of USS George Washington and Carrier-based Aircraft
November 5, 2024
- Recently, Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a notification from the US Forces Japan that the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington has begun transit to Yokosuka for its forward-deployment, and that its arrival is now scheduled in mid to late November. It was also notified that prior to entering the port of Yokosuka, the carrier-based aircraft will arrive at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.
- As the security environment in the region surrounding Japan becomes increasingly severe, maintaining a robust presence of the US Navy through the forward-deployment of USS George Washington and the Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 is essential to the security of Japan and the maintenance of regional peace and stability. Japan highly values the role that the US 7th Fleet plays for such objective.
