Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister IWAYA by UN Under Secretary General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs DiCarlo

On November 1, starting at 10:45a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, Under Secretary General (USG) for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the United Nations. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed USG DiCarlo’s visit for the second time during Japan’s Security Council term. He stated that Japan will contribute to strengthening multilateralism with the UN at its core and rebuilding international order during and beyond its Security Council tenure.
- In response, USG DiCarlo expressed appreciation for Japan's past contributions to the UN, including to the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs(DPPA) and stated that she looks forward to continuing to closely work together with Japan.
- They discussed and reaffirmed their collaboration on a wide range of issues, including strengthening the functions of the UN, including Security Council reform. They also reaffirmed their collaboration on dealing with North Korea such as the nuclear and missile issues including the launch of intercontinental ballistic missile on the previous day, the abductions issue and the advancement of Russia-North Korea military cooperation, and especially concurred to work together to ensure the full implementation of the relevant UNSC resolutions.
