Japan-U.S.-ROK Foreign Ministries’ Official Telephone Talk on North Korea

On October 31, in response to the ballistic missile launch by North Korea on the day, Mr. OKOCHI Akihiro, Deputy Director-General, Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Japan-U.S.-Republic of Korea (ROK) Telephone Talk with Mr. Lee Jun-il, Director-General for the Korean Peninsula Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, and Mr. Seth Bailey, Director for Korea and Mongolia Affairs, Deputy Special Representative for the DPRK, Department of State of the United States of America.
- They reaffirmed that ballistic missile launches by North Korea violate the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, strongly condemned the ICBM-class ballistic missile launch on the 31st, and reiterated their shared view that this constitutes a grave and imminent threat to the regional security and poses a clear and serious challenge to the international community.
- They reaffirmed close coordination among Japan, the U.S. and the ROK, including on enhancement of deterrence and response capabilities including trilateral security cooperation, engagements at UN Security Council, and international collaboration including cooperation with like-minded countries.
