Courtesy call on Foreign Minister Iwaya by Ukrainian students evacuated from Poland

On October 30, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call by 10 Ukrainian students during their visit to Japan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Iwaya stated that he was pleased to meet all of you who had come all the way from Ukraine to Japan, that he respected the efforts of Himeji City and related companies that had invited the students, and that he hoped they would have many good memories in Japan.
- Minister Iwaya also expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathy for the many people of Ukrainiane, including their families, who have suffered tremendous loss and damage as a result of the Russia’s aggression and stated that Japan stands with the people of Ukraine and that Japan will continue to provide strong support to Ukraine so that peace can be restored as soon as possible and the people of Ukraine can lead their lives return to normal, and that I will exert every effort to achieve this.
- In response, Ms. Marina, a representative of Ukrainian students, stated that she was very happy to be able to visit such a faraway country like Japan, that it was a great honor to know Japanese culture, and that she was grateful to see so many wonderful places. Mr. KIYOMOTO Hideyasu, Mayor of Himeji City, stated that the children’s smile at the "Himeji City-Ukraine Exchange Program for Evacuees: Bonds of Goodwill and Friendship" reminded him of the importance of international exchange, and that he would like to continue to engage in international exchange in the future.
