October 31, 2024
  1. An IAEA workshop on Monitoring during a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency was held at the IAEA Response and Assistance Network (RANET) Capacity Building Centre designated in Fukushima prefecture, from October 21st to 25th, 2024. Among IAEA Member States, 8 experts from 5 countries of Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Poland and Türkiye participated in this workshop.
  2. The workshop focuses on training participants to conduct emergency monitoring, data collection, and environmental analysis in the event of a nuclear or radiological emergency. In the workshop, field exercises were conducted in currently uninhabited evacuated areas following the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi accident, providing attendees with hands-on experience in real-life conditions. Also, lectures on radiological monitoring, practical fieldwork, and data mapping exercises to support decision-making processes for public protection were held.
  3. Through this workshop, it is expected that the cooperation between Japan and the IAEA will be reinforced and that nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness and response (EPR) capability of the IAEA member states will be further enhanced.
