Japan-Saudi Arabia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 28th, commencing at 6:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya mentioned that next year will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and expressed his hope that both countries would further strengthen their Strategic Partnership and work closely together to contribute to the stability of the international community and the Middle East region.
    In response, Minister Faisal expressed his hope that the Japan-Saudi Arabia relationship, which is approaching a major milestone, would continue to develop further under the Strategic Partnership.
  2. The two ministers had a frank exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East. Minister Iwaya expressed his deep concern about the exchange of attacks, including the recent attack by Israel against Iran, and strongly condemned any actions that escalate the situation, emphasizing the importance of calling for maximum restraint from all parties concerned.
    The two ministers concurred to continue to work closely together in responding to the situation in the Middle East, including the situation in Gaza.
