Japan-Palestine Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 24, commencing at 3:20 p.m. (Japan time) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Palestine. The overview is as follows;

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya introduced himself and Prime Minister Mustafa congratulated Minister Iwaya on his assumption of office.
  2. Minister Iwaya stressed the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza amid the tense situation in the Middle East, and explained Japan's diplomatic efforts and its contributions in humanitarian assistance, then expressed Japan’s determination to play a role in the coming early recovery and reconstruction phases as well. In addition, Minister Iwaya stressed the importance of steady implementation of Palestinian Authority (PA) reforms and expressed Japan’s support for such reform efforts.
  3. Minister Iwaya also emphasized Japan's consistent support for a two-state solution, and stated that Japan would contribute to the advancement of the Middle East peace process.
  4. In response, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mustafa explained Palestinian position on the situations in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as Palestinian Authority (PA) reform efforts, and expressed his appreciation for Japan's strong commitment to the Middle East peace. Minister Iwaya also expressed serious concerns about the situation in the West Bank and explained Japan's position.
  5. The two sides concurred to continue cooperation on the situation in the Middle East and the Middle East peace.
