Japan-Vietnam Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On October 22, commencing at 12:10 p.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Mr. Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister IWAYA expressed his gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Son for his congratulatory message on his appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs and expressed his desire to further develop Japan-Vietnam relations in cooperation with Deputy Prime Minister Son. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Son once again congratulated Minister IWAYA on his appointment and expressed his gratitude for Japan’s sympathy and support for the victims of the Typhoon Yagi. Deputy Prime Minister Son also expressed his desire to cooperate with Minister IWAYA in various fields to further strengthen bilateral relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was elevated at the occasion of 50th anniversary of Japan-Vietnam diplomatic relations last year.
  2. The two ministers agreed to promote cooperation in various fields, including people-to-people exchange, economy, economic cooperation, and security.
  3. Furthermore, the two ministers exchanged views on regional and international situations and agreed to work closely together in the regional and international arena, including Japan-Mekong cooperation and the situation on South China Sea.
