Welcome Reception for the Participants of the 64th Convention of Nikkei and Japanese Abroad Hosted by Foreign Minister Iwaya

On October 16, at the Iikura Guest House, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, hosted a reception to welcome overseas Japanese and Japanese descendants (Nikkei) who are participating in the 64th Convention of Nikkei and Japanese Abroad (organized by the Association of Nikkei & Japanese Abroad, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and others).
- In his opening speech, Minister Iwaya expressed his great pleasure to welcome more than 170 overseas Japanese and Nikkei from around the world. He paid tribute to Nikkei who have overcome numerous hardships with an indomitable spirit and are active in various fields, not only in their destinations but also across the globe. Furthermore, Minister Iwaya expressed his desire to humbly learn from the achievements of Nikkei, who have connected Japan and other countries, in order to steer the world headed for division and confrontation toward reconciliation and cooperation, and to work together toward the realization of their shared goals.
- On behalf of Nikkei, Dr. Ines Yamanouchi Mallari, President of the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai Rengokai (Federation of Japanese Descendants) and President of Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku, expressed appreciation to Minister Iwaya for hosting the reception and stated that the reception was a very valuable opportunity to strengthen ties between Nikkei in the world and people living in Japan. She also stated that it is encouraging that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports Nikkei’s activities that aim to strengthen the role of themselves in their societies.
- Following the remarks, informal talks took place in a cordial atmosphere between Minister Iwaya, other Japanese participants, and Nikkei, which provided an opportunity to deepen their exchanges.
