Signing and Exchange of Notes on “The Project for the Improvement of Railway Transportation” and “The Project for the Improvement of Educational Equipment at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum” for Mongolia
On October 3, 2024, in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, H.E. Mr. IGAWAHARA Masaru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia and H.E. Mr. Bold JAVKHLAN, Minister of Finance of Mongolia signed and exchanged notes concerning two grant aid projects to Mongolia, the grant aid up to 1.56 billion yen for the Project for the Improvement of Railway Transportation and the cultural grant aid up to the amount of 97.5 million Yen for the Project for the Improvement of Educational Equipment at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum.

In Mongolia, a landlocked country, improving and streamlining overland logistics is an urgent issue. This project aims to facilitate logistics by rail and improve safety by strengthening the functions of the railroad cargo transshipment facility in Zamyn-Uud, a logistics hub, located in the southern border area of Mongolia, and by providing the necessary equipment, as well as by repairing the tracks of the sharply curved section of the railroad network from Zamyn-Uud to the capital Ulaanbaatar, where involving high risk of accidents. This project aims to facilitate logistics and improve safety by rail, thereby contributing to the improvement of Mongolia's economic growth. - The Project for the Improvement of Educational Equipment at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum
This project aims to provide the Museum with equipment and facilities for distance education for rural residents and inclusive education for the disabled. This cooperation is expected to enhance the technology for displaying cultural heritage, expand educational opportunities, and improve the quality of education, thereby contributing to the development of human resources in Mongolia.
Mongolia has an area of approximately 1,564,100 square kilometers (approximately four times the area of Japan), a population of about 3.5 million people (2023, the National Statistics Office of Mongolia), and a gross national income (GNI) per capita is 4,950 USD (2023, World Bank).
