On October 3, Mr. FUKAZAWA Yoichi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Ms. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, Chief Executive Officer, the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD). The outline of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister FUKAZAWA stated that active discussions were held in the TICAD Ministerial Meeting held in Tokyo in August on respective areas of society, peace and stability, and economy from the three perspectives of future-oriented problem solving, youth and women, and connectivity and knowledge platforms. Mr. FUKAZAWA also stated that he would like to hold discussions on the future of Africa and co-create solutions together with Africa at TICAD 9 to be held in Yokohama in August next year.
  2. In addition, Parliamentary Vice-Minister FUKAZAWA expressed his expectation that the Africa Infrastructure Development Program (PIDA) being undertaken by AUDA-NEPAD will greatly contribute to strengthening Africa's connectivity, and that Japan would like to contribute to the further development of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the industrialization of Africa through various efforts including support for corridor development. Mr. FUKAZAWA also stated that he would like to put effort into expansion of Japanese start-ups in Africa.
  3. Ms. Nardos Bekele-Thomas expressed appreciation for Japan’s support for AUDA-NEPAD and Africa and stated that AUDA-NEPAD would like to continue to cooperate with Japan, including TICAD, to promote Africa’s development.
