Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Online Ministerial

Mr. YOSHIDA Nobuhiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Mr. HAYASHI Makoto, Ambassador in charge of Economic Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Ministerial was held online on September 24, Japan Time (September 23, U.S. Time). The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- The IPEF Ministerial was hosted by the Honorable Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce of the United States of America, and attended by representatives from Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan.
- In the Ministerial, the United States, the Depositary of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Agreement for Prosperity Agreement Related to a Clean Economy (IPEF Clean Economy Agreement), the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Agreement for Prosperity Agreement Related to a Fair Economy (IPEF Fair Economy Agreement) and the Agreement on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (the IPEF Agreement), announced that the IPEF Clean Economy Agreement and the IPEF Agreement will enter into force on October 11, 2024 with the deposit of the instruments of ratification, acceptance, or approval of these Agreements by five countries including Japan, and that the IPEF Fair Economy Agreement will enter into force on October 12, 2024 with the deposit of the instruments of ratification, acceptance, or approval of that Agreement by five countries.
- In the Ministerial, the participants confirmed their respective initiatives with regard to the IPEF Supply Chain Agreement, IPEF Clean Economy Agreement and IPEF Fair Economy Agreement. Japan introduced its initiatives on the concrete implementation of these agreements and stated its will to continue to contribute to the progress of tangible benefits and initiatives under these agreements.
