G7 + Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Ukraine Energy Sector Support

On September 23, commencing at 9:45 a.m. local time, Mr. ISHIZUKI Hideo, Director-General, International Cooperation Bureau, attended the G7+ Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Ukraine Energy Sector Support, hosted by the United States of America, in New York City. The overview of the meeting is as follows. The G7 countries, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, and other ministers in Europe participated in the meeting.

  1. During the meeting, the participants discussed the issue of maintaining and restoring the energy infrastructure in Ukraine. They shared information on each country’s vision for future assistance and affirmed their commitment to provide continued assistance to Ukraine in the energy sector.
  2. Director-General Ishizuki stated that assistance in the energy sector is urgently needed in light of Russia’s attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and that Japan will provide equipment and other assistance. He explained that Japan plans to provide two more autotransformers to Ukraine in addition to the nine they have already delivered, co-generation turbines, portable generators, and box-shaped sandbags to protect power generation facilities.
  3. Director-General Ishizuki stated that Japan intends to continue to provide seamless, tailored support that meets Ukraine's energy needs and to contribute to a better recovery.
