Demarche by Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs OKANO Masataka to Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao

  1. On the morning of September 18 (local time), one student at the Japanese School in Shenzhen, China, was attacked and injured by a man. Following this incident, from 5:25pm on the same day, Mr. OKANO Masataka, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, summoned Mr. Wu Jianghao, Ambassador of China to Japan, and expressed his deep concern regarding the incident. In addition, Mr. Okano requested that appropriate measures be taken from the perspective of preventing recurrence, and strongly urged that security be strengthened including around Japanese schools throughout China, and that every effort be made to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals. In response, Ambassador Wu expressed that it was heartbreaking that such an incident had occurred, and said he would work to strengthen the safety of foreign nationals including Japanese nationals in China.

In addition, the Vice-Minister Okano reiterated Japan's serious concerns to Ambassador Wu over the navigation of an aircraft carrier of the Chinese Navy between Yonaguni Island and Iriomote Island in the early hours of the 18th, taking into account a series of recent actions by China, and strongly urged to improve the situation.
