Human Rights Situation in Afghanistan (Statement by Press Secretary KITAMURA Toshihiro)

- Japan is deeply concerned with the situation in Afghanistan in which the Taliban is further restricting the rights of people, especially women and girls, by promulgating the so-called “vice and virtue law” on August 21, which severely restricts the conduct of the people of Afghanistan.
- Japan will continue to work with the international community to urge the Taliban to reverse its oppressive measures, including restrictions on the rights of women and girls, while continuing our own efforts to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
