Meeting between Foreign Minister Kamikawa and H.E. Dr. Nsanzabaganwa, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission

On August 25, commencing at 5:32 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa, Deputy Chairperson, African Union Commission (AUC) who is visiting Japan to participate in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa expressed her appreciation for the cooperation in the TICAD Ministerial Meeting. Minister referred to the importance of the AUC’s role in carrying out the work of the African Union towards a prosperous, integrated, and peaceful Africa. In the lead-up to TICAD 9, Minister Kamikawa requested the cooperation of the AUC to co-create innovative solutions with Africa, building on TICAD’s achievements of more than 30 years and setting their sights on the future of Africa.
- In response, Deputy Chairperson Nsanzabaganwa expressed her congratulations on the successful holding of the TICAD Ministerial Meeting. Deputy Chairperson Nsanzabaganwa welcomed the concrete outcomes through the TICAD process, and expressed her gratitude for Japan’s cooperation to date and the AUC’s desire to further work with Japan in the run-up to TICAD 9 next year. Deputy Chairperson Nsanzabaganwa also expressed her expectations for collaboration in the G20. The two sides concurred on the importance of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS).
