Japan-Namibia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On August 25th, commencing at 3:53 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Hon. Dr. Peya MUSHELENGA, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia who is visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa welcomed the growing exchange between the two countries. Minister Kamikawa then conveyed Japan’s decision to extend an Emergency Grant Aid of USD 0.5 million to Namibia which has been experiencing serious food insecurity and expressed her expectations for contributing to food security in Namibia through this assistance. In response, Minister Mushelenga expressed his gratitude for extensive assistance of Japan to Namibia and his expectations for further investment from Japan.
- The two ministers confirmed that they would strengthen cooperation in a wide range of areas for industrial diversification, such as industrial human resource development and support for small farmers.
- The two ministers confirmed that they would further develop Japan-Namibia relations towards Summit of the Future to be held next month and TICAD 9 in the coming year.
