Meeting Between Mr. FUKAZAWA Yoichi, Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Republic of Angola

On August 25, commencing at 11:59 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. FUKAZAWA Yoichi, Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Rui Miguêns de OLIVEIRA, Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Republic of Angola, who is visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice Minister Fukazawa welcomed the great momentum created by President Lourenço's visit last year to strengthen bilateral relations, and congratulated Angola on its assumption of the AU Presidency next year, which will mark the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence. In response, Minister Oliveira mentioned that he was pleased with the progress to date in bilateral relations and stated that he would like to work further to strengthen Japan-Africa relations as the AU Presidency next year.
  2. Parliamentary Vice Minister Fukazawa welcomed the entry into force of the Japan-Angola Investment Agreement in this July and stated that he would like to strengthen cooperation to increase private investment for Angola. In response, Minister Oliveira expressed his expectations that the entry into force of the Investment Agreement will promote investment from Japan.
  3. Both sides confirmed that they would further develop Japan-Angola relations towards TICAD 9 in the coming year.
  4. In addition, both sides had an exchange of views on cooperation in the international arena including Security Council reform.
