Japan-Liberia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On August 25, commencing at 10:43 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia who is visiting Japan to participate in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa congratulated Minister Nyanti on her appointment as Foreign Minister. In addition, Minister Kamikawa expressed Japan’s intention to contribute to Liberia’s nation-building through quintessentially Japanese cooperation, including quality infrastructure, Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and Women, Peace and Security (WPS), and stated that she would like to further deepen cooperation in the international arena with Liberia, which shares common fundamental values and principles such as democracy and the rule of law. In response, Minister Nyanti expressed her gratitude for Japan’s extensive support and stated that he would like to further strengthen the bilateral relations based on shared values.
- The two ministers confirmed that they would work together towards solving development issues of Liberia, including through quality infrastructure development. In addition, Minister Kamikawa asked Minister Nyanti for her cooperation in promoting WPS in Africa.
- The two ministers confirmed that they would further develop Japan-Liberia relations towards TICAD 9 in the coming year.
